Soft Contact Lenses
Ready To Discover Comfort And Correct Your Vision With Soft Contact Lenses?
When You Feel The Comfort You'll Wonder How You Ever Got Along Without
Them
Because soft contact lenses are made with a
very pliable, water-soaking plastic, they're the most comfortable lenses available After the short adaptation period you won't know you're
wearing them. Soft lenses are easy to insert and are less likely to trap dirt or other particles, which is a great advantage since the cleaner
your lenses, the more comfortable your eyes will feel. Proclear Compatibles are among the best soft contact
lenses.
There's a wide selection of soft lenses specially designed for your specific vision
correction needs, such as the newly improved soft toric
lenses for astigmatism. The latest soft lenses are made with a new material, silicone hydrogel, which allows a lot
more oxygen to reach the eyes, making them safer for overnight wear. Depending on the lens brand, some daily wear and disposable lenses are made
with a material that resists lens build up and keeps your eyes moist. They're suitable for certain eye conditions like dry eyes and teary
eyes due to allergies. Acuvue Advance lenses are such a brand.
Soft lenses are divided into 3 main categories:
Daily Wear or conventional lenses
- Require careful cleaning every night and are usually scheduled to be replaced after several months up to one year. One of the most
popular daily wear lenses is Cibasoft VT. If you're interested in this type of lens
and would like to change your eye color from dark to light, a great choice would be the Natural Touch lens by Cooper Vision, which provides the
most natural and bright color to dark eyes.
Disposable
contacts- These include daily disposables, 1-2 week disposables and 1-3 month disposables. Except for the daily
disposables, these lenses also require nighly cleaning and must be discarded at the end of the wearing period or as recomended by your doctor.
The Acuvue Advance and Acuvue 2 are among the most popular 1-2 week
disposables.
Extended Wear -
These lenses are designed for day and overnight wear and are approved for wearing for up to 6 consecutive days and nights. The newest lens of
this type is approved for up to 30 days and nights. If you sleep in your lenses, however, you must discard them and wear a new pair either
after 6 days or 30 days, depending on the lens schedule or as instructed by your eye care professional. The Focus Night & Day lens is a great
choice. $30.00 Cash Back on ACUVUE® ADVANCE Rebate Expires: 12/31/08
Rigid Gas Permeable vs Soft
You'll also be glad to know that soft lenses are the perfect choice if you're an athlete or have an active lifestyle, since they
rarely fall out of the eye, their adaptation period is short and they're easier to insert than rigid gas permeable lenses.
Because rigid gas permeable lenses ( also known as oxygen permeable) are harder than soft lenses, they're a lot more durable
and easier to clean and maintain. RGP lenses are easier to remove than soft lenses and they also offer a clearer vision for people with
certain types of vision problems. RGP toric lenses may be an alternative if you have astigmatism and have difficulty wearing soft toric
contacts.
Due to their soft and pliable material, soft lenses may absorb lotion or other cosmetics and irritate your eyes, so it's important
to wash your hands and make sure they're free of cosmetics or other substances before handling them. If you exercise common sense and
follow your doctor's caring and handling instructions, you'll be problem free and able to enjoy their convenience for many
years.
